The Third Issue of the Ateneo Law Journal’s 66th Volume is now available online.
In a world of far-reaching global interconnectedness, the Third Issue, with the theme, “Foreign Policy and International Law,” explores the influence of international law in domestic policy-making and conversely, the impact of local factors in the development of Philippine foreign policy.
Dean Sedfrey M. Candelaria and Atty. Kathleen Traci P. del Rosario, in "International Law, Foreign Policy, and the Judiciary in the Philippines," examines the Supreme Court's progressive trend of using international law as an evaluative set of norms in foreign policy in light of the President's power to decide on matters of foreign relations.
Among the Articles included is "Banning the Poor Man’s Weapons of Mass Destruction: The Philippines in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons" by Amb. J. Eduardo Malaya and Con. Ma. Therese M. Alders, which offers an in-depth discussion on the role of the Philippines as Regional Coordinator in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the country's participation in the elimination of certain weapons of mass destruction.
Also featured in the Issue is the Article, "Who’s to Blame for COVID-19? Views from the Law of State Responsibility, the International Health Regulations, and International Human Rights Law," written by Atty. Francis Tom Temprosa, which unravels existing international legal frameworks dealing with the questions of responsibility during a pandemic.
In addition, the Issue consists of works which thoroughly analyze the gaps in the legal framework of both international and domestic law in fields such as the space agenda, cyber-electoral interference, arms trade, amongst others.
